In God’s redemptive plan, he selects a young man (David) to be king over Israel. David would succeed Saul, the first king, who failed in obedience to God. And God made a covenant with David, promising that a king from his lineage would sit on his throne and his throne would never be taken away. This covenant promise would ultimately be fulfilled in and through the Messiah, Jesus the Christ.
