The New Covenant

August 16, 2020 Speaker: Mark Petersburg Series: Promises Made; Promises Kept

God, through the prophet Jeremiah, brought a message of hope to his people. It is contained in Jeremiah 31. It was a promise to write his laws not on tablets of stone but hearts of flesh. A promise that one day his people would experience the blessings of the Abrahamic covenant to their fullest. This “New Covenant” was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He spoke about his “blood of the new covenant” at the Last Supper with his disciples. There is both a “now” and “not yet” to the complete fulfillment of the covenant. Fulfilled in Jesus’ sacrifice on Calvary and the empty tomb, to be fully completed in the appearance of the new Jerusalem, the new heaven and the new earth (Revelation 21 & 22).
