Egypt’s Pharaoh does everything in his power to brutalize the Hebrew people in order to prevent them from ever becoming a threat to his power: slavery, infanticide, murder. What he does not count on is God’s plan for the Israelites. God has in place supervisors of the Hebrew midwives who fear him more than they fear the Pharaoh. He counters Pharaoh’s orders to have male Hebrew children thrown into the Nile by having the baby Moses placed upon the water only to be rescued by Pharaoh’s daughter. God’s fingerprints is all over this story. All is preparation for the salvation, the deliverance, of his people.
