The New Testament book of Hebrews was written to present a superior, pre-eminent Jesus, one who was greater than the Old Testament prophets, than angels, than Moses and Aaron, and greater than Jewish ceremonies and practices. Nowhere is this “betterness” demonstrated than in Jesus’ ministry as our great High Priest. He offered a better sacrifice and mediates a better covenant. Through his ministry as High Priest, we have bold and confident access into the very presence of God.
