O Come, O Come Emmanuel

November 29, 2020 Speaker: Mark Petersburg Series: The Carols of Christmas

Our knowledge of the Christmas story comes from many sources, including Christmas carols. The message series this Advent season is about the doctrinal teachings in some of the familiar ones. We begin with O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, a carol that originated in the late 8th and early 9th centuries. It was translated from the Latin into English in the mid-19th century. It is a carol that longs for, waits for, hopes for, the coming of the promised Messiah. And though focused upon the first Advent, we can see application to the second when Jesus returns to establish his everlasting kingdom.
