If Then; Therefore…

Passage: Colossians 3:1–17

The Scriptures are full of ligaments.  Webster’s Dictionary defines a ligament as “a band of tissue connecting bones or holding organs in place.”  In the Bible there are words, meaningful words, that connect things.  In Colossians three, Paul uses two of those “ligaments” – “If then” and “Therefore” to connect his teaching about our position in Christ to the kind of life we ought to live in light of our position.  “If then” (all these things are true, and they are), “therefore” (order your life in a way that reflects the grace of God given to you).
