Jacob, the “Deceiver,” becomes Israel, “God rules” or “God prevails.” We see in Scripture, Jacob’s journey to authentic faith as he becomes next-in-line to the covenant promise made to his grandfather Abraham. God’s plans and purposes are sure, and are worked out in the lives of those whom God blesses. We learn that God’s grace is the foundation of our salvation and lives, even as it was for Jacob.
