Stephen: The Cost of Discipleship

May 10, 2015 Speaker: Mark Petersburg Series: A.D.: The Story Continues

Two years after the resurrection of Jesus, the church probably numbered around 20,000. One of the growth problems centered around the food distribution for widows. A conflict between Hellenistic widows and Palestinian widows ensured. To remedy the situation, seven men were selected to oversee this important ministry. One of those men was Stephen. He was a man of godly character whom God used far beyond just the food distribution. When brought before the Council, he gives a brilliant sermon, highlighting the history of rejection on the part of the Jews. In response, he becomes the first martyr of the church.
