Jesus said things the disciples (and we) probably didn’t expect, things that go against the common grain of thinking. On at least five separate occasions, Jesus told the Twelve: “The first shall be last.” If you couple these sayings with Jesus’ teaching about the subject of greatness in the kingdom, you have a real counter-intuitive explanation of how God measures success. The reality is: God measures success differently!
