Joshua faced a daunting task: taking over the leadership of the nation of Israel from Moses.  There must have been ample room for fear, uncertainty, wondering if he was up to the task.  God, in a private commissioning recorded in Joshua chapter one, encourages and exhorts Joshua with four great truths – four great assurances: his promise, his presence, his power and his precepts.  These same four truths should encourage us in whatever situation or task faces us today.
