God set his favor upon a young woman and chose her to be the human mother of the Christ-child. In the angel’s appearing and in his message, God revealed something of his majesty to this favored one. God also revealed his majesty to Joseph to whom Mary was betrothed. This Child would be called Jesus for “he will save his people from their sins.” The greatness and splendor of God’s plan was bound up in his gracious gift, the gift of his Son.
