The book of Exodus is a continuation of the Genesis story that began with the call of Abraham to be the father of a new nation, a covenant people, chosen for God’s divine purposes. It is the story of redemption. We see God saving a people for his own glory. In First Corinthians, chapter ten, Paul tells New Testament believers that much is to be learned from the experience of the Hebrews and that their story is for our instruction.
