In First Peter, chapter two, Peter exhorts his readers (and us) to live in such a way that it provides a good testimony.  He encourages believers to know the unique identity they have in Christ which provides a foundation and motivation for godly conduct.  The passage ends (verse 12) with a set-up to the rest of chapter two and all of chapter three: three specific areas of life where such godly living makes a real difference.
